The book “Life and legacy of Dr. José Gustavo Guerrero (1876 – 1958)” comes from the needs of a deep and sistematic research of the professional work from the Salvadoran jurist and internationalist, who developed his career as a foreign servant from El Salvador. In 1927, his tenure as Minister of Foreign Affairs from El Salvador has been
caracterized for his deep reforms, looking for recognize the diplomatic and consular functions as “specialties”, subjected to a ladder and joining competitions, as well as the official opening of the first Diplomatic School in the country. In the multilateral sphere, his contributions to multilateralism were clear in the scope of the League of Nations, presiding their General Assembly, in the name of El Salvador, in 1929. A year later, he was named as a judge in the Permanent Court of International Justice, and named as Vicepresident until 1937. That year Guerrero was named President of the PCIJ, position he mantained
until the end of World War II. In 1946 he was named judge in the new International Court of Justice, where he exercised his duties until his death, in 1958. This book has the first deep research which review the historical archives from the League of Nations, with the
achievements of Dr. Guerrero to multilateralism.
